Ostara-Time of AwakeningWith the early
urgings of green, we await the arrival of spring. Morning bird-song
excites our passions. We breathe deeply the cool morning air filled
with the fragrance and promise of spring’s return. The Goddess spills
petals from Her glowing hand. Spreading the light of the new day. The
God-Child plays among fawns and rabbits, chasing squirrels through the
trees and leaves.
Ostara (spring equinox) is the time
to celebrate the arrival of spring, when light and darkness are in
balance. From this day on, the light grows stronger and days grow
longer. The Goddess has weaned the young God from Her breast. He has
grown and come Beltane He will be the Phallic Lord, lover and consort
to our beloved Goddess. The earth is beginning to warm and awaken. The
trees are starting to bud and some have even flowered. Bird-song fills
the air reminding us of love, passion and stirs natures desire to
copulate. Many of the symbols of Ostara have become the symbols of the
Christian Easter tradition. Most of these symbols represent new life
and fertility such as the egg and rabbit known for their fertility.
The
seeds or spells we plant today, when nurtured, will sprout and produce
the fruit of our aspirations and actions. Ostara is the time of renewed
hopes, joys and enthusiasms, for our desires grow and we are filled
with inspiration for a renewed earth and Self. Like the earth, we have
come to find balance and from this balance be are reborn and
resurrected from the dredge and bonds of winter.
Ostara
is the time to say goodbye to the Spirits and energies of winter and
the time to honor and welcome the Spirits and energies of spring. For
this is the twilight of Mother Earths awakening.
